About the name and this blog:

The story isn’t that fancy really. I just happened to think of and like the name a lot since I read and learned about undigestible fibers that are present naturally in green or raw bananas and raw potatoes. Many people don’t know that green bananas are a great prebiotic. Meaning, they help restore the balance in your intestines/gut by feeding the good bacteria.

About me

My name is Dr. Heba Ismail. I’m a pediatric endocrinologist and a career physician scientist as well as mother of two young children. I study diabetes, primarily type 1 diabetes, with a more recent interest in the microbiome. I find the microbiome fascinating in all fields of medicine and life. By starting this blog, I hope to communicate to the public as well as to scientists alike, what we are constantly learning about the microbiome.
